Bicosomes® interact with the skin through an innovative biomimetic mechanism that imitates the skin’s own transportation system, the lamellar bodies.

When Bicosomes® are applied on the skin, its outer vesicle fuses on the skin surface and the smart disks penetrate selectively through the inter-corneocytes spaces reaching target skin layers.

Once the actives are delivered, Bicosome® ordered lipid structures get integrated in the skin matrix, reinforcing the barrier function.

Target Delivery by design

Bicosome® structures are smart because they are able to interact and respond to the different skin environments in order to target deliver the actives in the right layers, where they should work. This explains  the outstanding efficacy of our products.

The images below show skin explants treated with four different Bicosome prototypes, showing the different target delivery strategies.  The molecule encapsulated is Sodium Fluorescein (FLU-Na), a hydrophilic fluorescent probe. The technique used is Fluorescence microscopy.
